Chapter 1406: A walk to the final interview
Chapter 1406: A walk to the final interviewPatricia had always been confused about why everyone referred to Penny as a male. She hadn’t dwelled on it much, but today, she was starting to understand the reason. It was becoming clear—Shawn, Hayley, and even Teddy didn’t know who they were applying to work for.
Just that realization alone turned her mood upside down.
A smile spread across her face, something she hadn’t expected after the ordeal at the police station. With that, Patricia maintained her cheerful expression throughout the ride.
Meanwhile, Hayley and Shawn kept to themselves, lost in their own questions, while Teddy quietly observed Patricia’s sudden change in demeanor.
’Why does she look so happy all of a sudden?’he wondered, sneaking a glance at her. ’Penny... who is she, really?’
Teddy recalled the short interaction at the police station. Penny and Yugi seemed close, which wasn’t surprising since they were cousins. However, there was something strange about the way they spoke to each other. Teddy could feel it, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
’She sounded like she was giving orders to T. Mouse earlier,’ he thought, remembering how Yugi had asked Penny where she was going and how Penny had casually responded, instructing him to bring the others along.
It was too brief of an exchange to draw a solid conclusion, so Teddy let out a quiet sigh.
’There are too many possible explanations for that,’ he reasoned. ’Maybe she’s just older than T.Mouse, and he naturally defers to her.’
Shaking his head, he decided not to overthink it. After all, the alternative theory was absurd. Everyone knew T. Mouse was a man, and Yugi had always been the face of Prime Group since it went public years ago. Teddy had done extensive re
"I’d like to think she wouldn’t..." Yugi trailed off, his expression souring. "Hopefully."
DING!
The elevator doors slid open, and they waited for a few people to step out before getting in. The four applicants instinctively positioned themselves behind Yugi and Grace.
Inside the elevator, Patricia hesitated before asking,
"Uhh... where exactly are we going?"
Yugi glanced over his shoulder, studying the oblivious group. "To your final interview... I guess?"
Final interview? At a hospital?
Patricia, Shawn, Hayley, and Teddy exchanged confused looks. They had been hoping to complete their final interview soon, but this was an unexpected location. Would they need medical reports right away to confirm their fitness for the job?
After all, they knew Prime Group required medical evaluations for new hires. Maybe this was just another part of the process?
But the truth was, this final interview was nothing like they had imagined.
It was something they would never forget for the rest of their lives.
DING!
The elevator reached its destination, and the doors slowly parted. Yugi and Grace’s eyes glinted with sharp awareness as they stepped out, already preparing for the worst.
Meanwhile, the four applicants followed, bracing themselves for whatever test awaited them.
But this was not the kind of test they had mentally prepared for.
Turning to the corner, Yugi and Grace came to a sudden halt. There, seated on one of the waiting benches, was Penny. She was casually fiddling with an IV pole, testing its wheels as if it were a toy.
"Oh, god," Grace muttered, pressing her fingers to her temple. She turned to Yugi. "I’m going to call everyone. I have a really bad feeling about this."
Yugi nodded in agreement, watching as Grace hurried off to summon every lawyer Penny had on retainer. Grace might be Penny’s primary legal advisor, but they always kept multiple specialists on standby—for situations like this.
"Penny," Yugi finally spoke, stepping closer.
Penny looked up at him, her gaze flicking past him to the four unfamiliar faces behind him. She had seen Teddy and Shawn briefly the previous day, but they were strangers to her. Likewise, aside from Patricia, the other three had no idea who Penny really was.
"Come with me," she said, gripping the IV pole as she stood. "I want to show you something. That includes you, Patricia."
"Huh?" Patricia blinked, caught off guard. But Penny didn’t bother explaining.
Instead, she turned and started walking, dragging the IV pole along with her.
Yugi stepped aside and shot the group a knowing smile. "Follow her. This is your final interview."
The four hesitated, glancing at each other in confusion. Still, they followed Penny, maintaining a careful distance.
Soon, they arrived at what was clearly a private ward, given the two bodyguards stationed outside.
"You’re too close," Yugi whispered behind them. "Step back."
Like obedient soldiers, the four instinctively took a step back. Their eyes remained locked on Penny, who now stood in front of the two towering guards, gripping the IV pole.
"I need to see her," Penny said coldly. "Move aside."
"Miss, Miss Cassandra is still recovering from an incident—"
Before the guard could finish, Penny swung the IV pole, striking him under the chin.
"Hey—" the second guard barely had time to react before the other end of the pole jabbed into his abdomen.
Yugi sighed, his forced smile twitching. "Grace was right. She should just call everyone at this point."
Meanwhile, Patricia, Teddy, Shawn, and Hayley stood frozen, their expressions blank with shock.
They had just witnessed an unprovoked assault — right in front of them.
What in the world was this woman doing?! Was she insane?!
